Not every gain in subscribers is equally useful. People who join for a reward, a bonus, or access to a third-party tool often don't read the channel and leave quickly. Bulk paid subscriptions usually bring weak engagement.
A sharp spike in unsubscribes doesn't always mean a mistake in the content. Possible causes:
- a Telegram purge: unsubscribes come in large waves, the rate is several times higher than usual, and Recent actions shows fewer specific users;
- a real decline in interest: unsubscribes grow gradually, the names in Recent actions roughly match the overall statistics, and ordinary live accounts leave;
- low-quality traffic after an ad: unsubscribes start 1–3 days after the campaign, come in a steady stream, and are often tied to off-target clicks, bots, giveaways, or a promise that didn't match the channel's content.
The response depends on the cause. During a purge, it's better not to change your strategy hastily. During a real decline, it's worth rethinking the topic, tone, schedule, and ad integrations. When low-quality traffic leaves, you need to change your promotion sources and creatives.
